If you've always wanted to hone your skills as a rock, pop, country, jazz, folk, gospel, musical theater or R&B singer, GAA has the right voice teacher for you. Our vocal faculty focuses primarily on popular musical styles. Each week, students (both children and adults alike) are led through physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath support, vibrato technique, tone production, enunciation and more.
All singing students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice. Music lessons help children become better at sensing feelings, emotions, and mood -- which is what expression through singing is all about!
We also teach TV and radio personalities who want to enhance their speaking voices.
When you enroll at the Academy, we'll begin with an evaluation to determine initially what your strengths and challenges are. We work with each individual or parent to craft a lesson plan that fits the student's individual needs and favorite type of music.
Whether you're a performer in a band, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to singing after many years, our friendly, dedicated teachers will share their love of popular music and help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.
Learning to play an instrument provides a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment -- so does teaching it, by the way -- and your voice is the instrument you bring with you everywhere!
Our singing teachers primarily focus on popular music. If you've always been passionate to be a better rock, pop, country, jazz, folk, gospel, musical theater or R&B singer -- or if you or your child just want to sing better in your Church choir -- or you or your child have an audition coming up -- we have the right vocal teachers for you.
Our singing instructors have received their music education from prestigious institutions such as University of California at Berkeley (music dept), Berklee College of Music, Music For The Media, and University of California at Los Angeles (music dept). Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the US and Europe and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience.
In addition, our teachers have warm personalities, have depths of patience, and will work with you to define and pursue your personal musical goals. Definitely ask your teacher about their own "story" -- learning how their development began can be very inspiring! Private vocal training is available for beginner, advanced, and professional levels.
Vocal students spend time each week performing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training (literally, how to "hear" music like a musician), breath control, vibrato technique, tone production, enunciation, confidence, and more.
All vocal students set goals with their teacher to work on learning how to sound like their favorite recording artists -- "When she performed it, she sounded like this. How did she do that??" -- or if they prefer, to develop their own unique style.
If you're up for a bit of a challenge, you can enhance your vocal instruction results by taking guitar or piano lessons as well -- then you can play as you sing!
No. Note-reading isn't a required skill for most pop styles; it helps with musical theater. If it would really benefit you or your child to learn to read music, we'll be glad to teach you! Note-reading isn't as hard as it appears -- there are more than one specialized technique for teaching this skill that make it approachable.
Note reading offers many benefits; it doesn't require any special talent, just patience. Once you have access to reading pitch and rhythm, you may even discover you have a passion for some music that can only be learned by reading it from a score. We're confident you'll succeed if you take it slow and let your teacher guide you.

And of course, among many other benefits, performing in public builds confidence in children.
