(for ages seven and up)

Our songwriting and composition teachers focus on both popular and art music. If you have always wanted to create your own music (in any style) then we have the teachers who can help you achieve your dream. Songwriting students work on rhythm, melody, and harmony, as well as song structure and more. They also spend time working on arranging their tunes -- that is, figuring out how the band or other ensemble is actually going to create the sounds they hear in their heads. This can be the beginning of a life-long passion, so parents, be warned! :-)

November Memories

Original work by Logan Bunte-Mein. Logan was a piano student at Greenwich Arts Academy for more than four years. This piece was composed and refined over a three week period, then had its premier at the Academy's annual Fall Concert. He was 17 at the time he composed this lovely piece. Now he's off at an Ivy League school studying engineering. But he still plays music!

I Dance All Night

Original work by Athena, age 7, piano and composition student at Greenwich Arts Academy. Athena developed this piece in GarageBand, starting with a rhythmic pad. She experimented with several instrumental versions before deciding on the spur of the moment to add a vocal instead.  Athena is now 12 and still spends much of her time creating original songs.

When you enroll at the Academy, we'll begin with an evaluation to determine initially what your strengths and challenges are. Then your teacher will recommend an approach. There is no one-size-fits-all method. The pacing of the program is based entirely on the student's readiness for each next step.

(Songwriting lessons can be taken as a stand-alone course, or as an add-on to the student's other music instruction.)

That question is often asked by prospective students. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals.

We do not treat every student the same in terms of what and how we teach.

A seven year old having their first guitar lesson will have very different needs than a fifty seven year old taking up piano for the 2nd time after having had lessons as a child.

The main reason to choose the Academy as your music lesson provider, is that we are sensitive to the fact that every student is an individual.

If you enroll here for lessons, we will work with you to make a plan that will fit your needs and musical preferences. At the first lesson your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child.
