Audition Preparation Services
AUDITION PREPARATION SERVICES
(for ages seven and up)
One of the benefits of living in Fairfield and Westchester Counties is the proximity to great arts programs. It also means that standards are high and competition is fierce. Whether you are auditioning for the middle- or high-school musical, for any of the many excellent local or regional theater groups, or competing to get into an excellent conservatory or university music program, being cool and well-prepared is key.
Successful auditions depend on a variety of factors, many of which are out of your control -- who else shows up, what the casting director had for lunch (and now regrets eating), where your name appears on the list, and a host of other variables. The only element directly under your control is your preparation... and it has to be better, deeper, and more thorough than the competition's. We are the only music school in Greenwich that offers audition preparation services for our students.

One-to-One Audition and Performance Preparation Programs
Musical Theater Auditions
(2 hour minimum)
From material selection and editing, to vocal coaching and performance, Greenwich Arts Academy's experts will work with you to make your presentation as tight and impactful as it can possibly be. Whether you're singing in front of a Broadway casting director or your High School Theater director, you will generally not be able to perform an entire song -- so the time spent editing the music and honing the expression and gestures is critical to your success.
Talent/Variety Show Preparation
(2 hour minimum)
Haven't performed much? Does the idea of getting on stage frighten you? At the Academy we have many years of experience helping young (and older) performers process and move beyond various forms of performance anxiety. Butterflies are normal; but stage fright is a misinterpretation of threat and can be redirected into healthier pathways.
Dramatic or "Legit" Theater Auditions
(2 hour minimum)
If you have a speech or monologue you'd like some feedback on, please don't hesitate to ask. We have consulting experts available with extensive acting experience who can work with you to smooth what needs smoothing and amp up what needs to be more aggressive. The result will be a memorable audition that makes the casting table sit up and take notice.
Private Rehearsal Sessions
(Sessions arranged on an hourly basis)
Wouldn't it be great to be able to take your show's music director home with you for individualized rehearsal? Or to have the actor with whom you have to sing a complicated duet join you to practice?
We have coaches at the Academy with years of theater experience. They'll run those numbers with you as often as necessary, without the pressure of an entire cast waiting for the music director's attention.
(2 hour minimum)
It is better, whenever possible, to have your own accompanist play at your audition. The established rapport and rehearsal time you've spent together is the edge you need to make your performance smooth and professional. Remember, the hired-gun accompanist at the audition is often sight-reading, and has not rehearsed with you!
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DO YOU LEARN IN YOUR MUSIC LESSONS?
That question is often asked by prospective students. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals.
We do not treat every student the same in terms of what and how we teach.
A seven year old having their first guitar lesson will have very different needs than a fifty seven year old taking up piano for the 2nd time after having had lessons as a child.
The main reason to choose the Academy as your music lesson provider, is that we are sensitive to the fact that every student is an individual.
If you enroll here for lessons, we will work with you to make a plan that will fit your needs and musical preferences. At the first lesson your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child.
WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC DO YOU TEACH?
We teach all styles from classical to rock, pop, jazz, country, and blues.
ARE YOUR INSTRUCTORS QUALIFIED?
Our teachers have received their education from prestigious institutions such as University of California at Berkeley, Berklee College of Music, Music For The Media, and University of California at Los Angeles. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the US and Europe and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level.
